If you are trying to remove coatings and paint from steel or aluminum without generating heat (that can warp, marr, or pitt surfaces) try plastic abrasive. Plastic blasting media is a lightweight, dry, non toxic blasting media that is also perfect for cryogenic deflashing applications and rubber mold cleaning. It is chemical free, made from 100% recycleable material. Plastic media is nice to work with because it works well on many types of SOFT substrates. This includes fiberglass, aluminum, copper, brass, plastics, rubber, electronic components and circuit boards, other types of composite materials, and even steel. It is easy on the substrate's surface, due to no heat buildup or distortion - thus will not cause warping. Great for cleaning off wax, hydrocarbon deposits, burrs, adhesives and sealants, aviation fuselages and general deflashing. Plastic media is soft enough that it will not damage bearings or seals.
Plastic blast media will work in most enclosed blast cleaning machines. It is made specifically for mold cleaning, surface stripping, deflashing, and general surface cleaning. It generates little dust, and has an extended life cycle when compared with other types of surface cleaning medias. Plastic is also great for blasting automobile parts like fenders and hoods as it is softer than thin sheet metal. Works equally well on delicate aluminum composites and similar metals.
UREA or MELAMINE - HOW TO CHOOSE? Our plastic abrasive is available in Urea Type II and Melamine Type III. The only difference between the two is hardness, with the Melamine media being a bit harder than Urea and is therefore best to use on steel or other very hard substrates, or when you are taking off difficult to remove surface contamination (such as primer, paint, scale). Melamine plastic media is the hardest of all plastic blast medias in general, having a Mohs hardness rating of 4. Urea is a softer grade (Mohs hardness of 3.5), is considered the most versatile plastic media grade. If you are not sure what to choose, try the Urea first.
*** Upon special request we can also supply Type I Polyester (Mohs 3) as well as Type V Acrylic (Mohs 3.2-3.5, softer than melamine or urea). Softer yet would be a Type VI (Mohs 3) which is used on delicate forms, fiberglass, plastics, composites, Corvettes. All sizes available for most of these types.

If using a small 1/4" nozzle, buy a 16/20 grit size or finer. The very coarse 12/16 will not flow too well through such a fine nozzle.
